Light
Isaiah 60:1–5
By Jeff Olds
Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.For behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples;
but the Lord will arise upon you, and his glory will be seen upon you.And nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.
Lift up your eyes all around, and see; they all gather together, they come to you;
your sons shall come from afar, and your daughters shall be carried on the hip.Then you shall see and be radiant;
your heart shall thrill and exult, because the abundance of the sea shall be turned to you, the wealth of the nations shall come to you.
This passage speaks about the earth and its peoples being covered in thick darkness – the darkness of sin and separation from God. But then light comes and glory is revealed. Not only is it revealed, but it is seen “upon you” (v.1). What a glorious thought!
John 1:4-5 reminds us, “In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
Jesus is the light and the overcomer of darkness!
Remember that the light and overcomer of darkness, Jesus Christ, emptied Himself so that the darkness of sin has no hold on you and that the glory of God will be seen in you (Phil 2:4-7).
Let your LIGHT shine!
Father, thank You for sending Jesus to be the light and overcomer of darkness in my life. May His glory be seen “all over me.”
